I recently bought a Colvic Atlanta 31 motor sailor which came fitted with an XDP 4.90 engine and a HBW20 gearbox.
The boat has been neglected and had a lot of rain water sitting in the bilges. This appears to have got into the gearbox which is in a pretty bad state, however, the engine seems to run OK.
I am planning on replacing the gearbox with a new Techno Drive TMC 260, but before I do that should I consider replacing the engine at the same time. Is the XDP 4.90 considered to be a 'good' engine?
The boat was a bargain so if I do end up replacing the engine and gearbox it won't be the end of the world.

Peugeot Xdp Engine Manual Transmission
What is the interval for changing oil for Peugeot XDP engines? I changed the engine oil recently and the engine has clocked 1.5K km since then. Oil seems to be saturated and even the amount of oil has decreased. I suspect rings, but bad rings, but need to check that. There is also oil leaking from the engine.
